Oh Charleston (Part 1)
Oh Charleston… or also known as “Chal-ston” for the deep Southerners. History and Beauty run here rampant. Throw in some food and drinks and trips to the beach, why would you want to live anywhere else? Sure we can get hot here, but that’s alright, we got plenty to do to keep you busy to take your mind off that heat. We got so much to do here that we haven’t been awarded as a top destination city for nothing. While there are plenty of books and magazines and websites that tell you what to do while you’re here, trust a born/raised/living there Charleston native. These are the things…

Happy Father’s Day!!!
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads in the world! And by all Dads, I mean ALL Dads for: Dads Stepdads Grandads Adoptive Dads Father-in-laws Pet Dads New Dads Godfathers Uncles Dads in Heaven Dads-to-be & Honorary Dads! To my Dad 🙂 It takes a lot of different types of dads to make the world go around, but every 3rd Sunday of June, we take a day to celebrate the manliness of Fatherhood. As mentioned above, there are a lot of types of dads, some we may not even always recognize. I, of course, would like to shoutout to 5 dads in my life: My biological Dad…

Charleston 9 Firefighters
June itself is NOT a very good month for Charleston. Last year was a horrific tragedy where 1 man shot 9 people at the Mother Emanuel Church. Just as equally horrific, Charleston experienced another overwhelming tragedy just 9 years prior. On June 18th, 2007, 9 firefighters lost their lives in a blaze that overwhelmed the Sofa Store they were trying to put out. There had not been such a great loss of life of men honorably acting out their oaths and duties since September 11th, 2001. From 7pm to approximately 10pm, the fire raged, but it wasn’t until 4am that everyone that had gone in, but tragically not returned had been…

1 year later, Still #Charlestonstrong
#Charlestonstrong Or should I say, still #Charlestonstrong. 1 year ago today: June 17th, 2015 ——- 1 man took the lives of 9 people (and injured others) at the Mother Emanuel AME church. No one would have ever imagined the chaos that reigned that night. I know I sure didn’t. I was working late, overseeing a banquet function at the hotel I was currently working at in Mount Pleasant, with no idea the chaos that was happening on Calhoun St, Downtown Charleston. It wasn’t til I got home that I found out about the tragedy that had befallen on my city. I don’t have cable, it’s expensive but mostly because it’s just too depressing (case…

Happy Flag Day
Happy Flag Day!!! Hope that you’re having a great Tuesday! Today is Flag Day and while we may not really know about it, it’s still an important holiday to the United States. You may remember covering Flag Day back in elementary school. I know I do. Before the days of computers being used to write out reports, and a particular teacher wanting it typed out, I remember working on this 5 page report with my mom on her typewriter, putting colorful holographic flags on the cover page. I’m pretty sure my mom has it tucked away somewhere. Here it now being some 20 years later, doing that report for…

Crescent Moon and Stars Relaunch
Buy me some flowers and take me to dinner, Crescent Moon and Stars is a month old! In celebration, there has been a major facelift and a relaunch! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported me in my endeavors of getting Crescent Moon and Stars from an idea to launching May 10th (1 day after getting back from vacation… hindsight man… haha) and tweaking things. I would particular like to thank Raewyn at Be A Warrior Queen, Allie at Allie Williams Co., to everyone who participated in Alle’s The Daily Ten challenge (BIG shoutout to the_a_team), Emilie at Burke Does and Wendy at The Gratefulist.…

Gratitude Attitude
It’s June 1st (who can believe it already?! Didn’t we just celebrate New Years, St. Patty’s and Easter? Now school is out?!) and the year is halfway over. It’s that time of year where I look at where I was in the beginning of the year, reflect on what progress (or lack of progress) I’ve made, look at contributing factors and re-evaluate the goals I’d set out for this year. I’m not gonna ask you how your resolutions are going (I do goals vs. resolutions, but yeah, I’m right there with ya…), but I have a different question to ask you. When you hear the word gratitude, what do you see?…
